
A man was fatally shot inside his car in Speedway, in an incident that has led local police to launch a homicide investigation, early Thursday morning. According to a WTHR report, the shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of West 10th and North Norfolk streets, and officers arrived on the scene after hearing gunshots from the 1100 block of North Norfolk Street.
Upon their arrival, the Speedway Police discovered a white car, its passenger side riddled with bullet holes and inside, a man with gunshot wounds, he was later pronounced dead at the scene, and while the Marion County Coroner's Office is expected to release his identity pending family notification, the police spokesperson stated there is "no immediate danger to the rest of the community," as per the statement obtained by WTHR.
Details surrounding the shooting remain scant, with FOX59 adding no information has been disclosed regarding a potential suspect or the motive behind the incident, local law enforcement are continuing their investigation, canvassing the area for leads and possibly witnesses to shed light on the events that unfolded in the morning.
The Speedway Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward, as they work to piece together the circumstances leading to the man's death, although details about what may have led to the shooting have not been released and officers provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived but the man couldn't be saved, and he was declared dead at the location of the shooting which was also near a Speedway apartment complex according to a WISH-TV report.
