Horror in Northeast Bexar County as Toddler Critically Injured by Pit Bull, Owner Faces Possible ChargesSource: Google Street View

A 1-year-old boy is currently in critical condition after being viciously attacked by pit bulls earlier today in Northeast Bexar County. The tragic incident unfolded at a residence off Spruce Ridge Drive, near Kitty Hawk Drive, as reported by FOX San Antonio.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the toddler was in the care of his 13-year-old sister when the dogs became unexpectedly aggressive and mauled the baby on the bed. While trying to rescue her sibling from the attack, the teenage girl was also bitten by the dogs. "The baby was seriously mauled and had injuries in the neck and face, as well as the neck area," Sheriff Salazar told FOX San Antonio.

The boy was initially rushed to San Antonio Military Center but will be airlifted to University Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries. MySanAntonio reported that the injuries sustained by the child include trauma to his face and head, and the sheriff stated that "the boy is not doing well."

It was also revealed by Sheriff Salazar that this was not the initial incident involving the dogs, with these pit bulls reportedly having been deemed dangerous prior to this tragedy. Despite previous citations for aggressive behavior, the owner had retained the animals and refused to surrender them to Animal Control. They were later seized by force, as the owner was taken into custody and may face charges. Details about the earlier incident with the dogs were cited to have been previous aggressive which led to the owner being cited, Salazar explained to FOX San Antonio.
