An Indianapolis man, identified as Joshua Raine, has been charged following a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 14-year-old Wilberto Rivera. The incident occurred last Thursday on the 1100 block of North Cumberland Road, shortly before 10 p.m., on a dark stretch of road without streetlights or sidewalks, where the teen was hit from behind while riding his bicycle, as reported by FOX59.
Raine is facing a serious charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury. Court documents reveal that he reported the incident the following day without initially realizing the fatal outcome. During a police interview, he stated that he presumed he hit a deer, as he didn't see anything in his rearview mirror, and admitted being distracted by loud music at the time of the accident, the details emerged from WTHR.
Wilberto, known as Willie, was described as an outgoing and entrepreneurial young man with dreams of starting his own clothing line. He had just finished escorting a friend home on the night of the incident, according to details from IndyStar. His aunt, Heather Harvell, said, "We have to do better, and I'm going to be a part of that to help do better, his family and all those people that showed up to the hospital," as mentioned by FOX59.
