An Indianapolis man faces serious charges after a tense standoff with police. Charles McQuinn, 54, was charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, following events that unfolded on the west side of the city, as reported by WTHR.

According to FOX59, the incident began last Friday when the IMPD responded to a shots fired call at the 6700 block of Doris Drive. Upon arrival, officers were met with contradictory information from McQuinn's girlfriend who initially denied hearing gunshots and "declined further police assistance." The following day she revealed at a Circle K gas station that she lied "because they were afraid for their safety." McQuinn had reportedly loaded a firearm and threatened her with it, emphasizing if police approached, "he was going to shoot (her)," as reported by FOX59.

Later that same evening, the girlfriend alleges that McQuinn pointed the firearm at her and stated that he intended to take her life, heightening the severity of the situation, stated in a release obtained by WRTV. On returning to the residence, law enforcement's efforts to coax McQuinn out of the house initially met with resistance. He refused police commands to "exit peacefully," but ultimately, through what IMPD described as "relentless efforts and de-escalation techniques," he surrendered and was taken into custody, a statement obtained by WTHR.

IMPD's search of McQuinn's home yielded two firearms: a 9mm handgun and a .45 caliber handgun, found hidden under a mattress, as per relief stated by FOX59. His upcoming pretrial conference is set for December 12, and a jury trial has been scheduled to begin on December 18, according to court documents, reports WTHR.
