Three Indianapolis men responsible for a spree of eight armed robberies targeting cell phone stores have been sentenced to significant time behind bars. Robdarius Williams, 21, D'Maurah Bryant, 21, and Quintez Tucker, 20, received a total of 65 years in federal prison for their crimes, according to a news release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana. Their series of robberies, which took place from November 8 through December 3, 2021, involved brandishing firearms and threatening both employees and customers for cash, electronics, and accessories.
Each of the robberies was marked by a bold disregard for human safety, culminating in one instance where, an AR-style firearm was pointed at a toddler during a robbery, as relayed in a U.S. Department of Justice report. Williams acted as the getaway driver for the last robbery and was implicated in stealing a license plate for the car, and in aiding Tucker to acquire the rifle used in the robbery. The sentencing comes after Bryant and Tucker's guilty pleas in April and Williams' subsequent conviction by a federal jury in June.
Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, made a clear statement on the matter, saying, these armed criminals terrorized their victims with utter disregard for the consequences of their actions. FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge, Herbert J. Stapleton underscored the broader impact of such crimes, pointing out, "The defendants didn’t just steal items; they instilled a sense of fear in and disrupted the lives of their victims."
Ed Gebhart, Chief of Fishers Police Department, lauded the sentencing as a strong deterrent and a message to the community that such criminal behavior will face severe consequences. The FBI, along with the Fishers Police Department, IMPD, and the Marion County Prosecutors Office were all pivotal in the investigation, with U.S District Court Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson laying down the sentences. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeremy C. Fugate and Peter A. Blackett, were acknowledged by U.S. Attorney Myers for their role in the prosecution of the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, aiming to reduce violent crime and to cultivate safer environments for the public.
