In a collaborative effort focused on community health, the Ironwood Cancer and Research Center is offering free screenings to address cancer. Understanding that early detection can be vital for survival, Ironwood is hosting another series of no-cost check-ups. According to ABC15, “If we identify and treat it early, then perhaps there’s a chance of cure," as Ironwood's Dr. Boo Ghe Low stated.
About 4 in 10 Americans are expected to face a cancer diagnosis during their lifetimes. The free screenings are part of Ironwood's initiative to raise awareness and improve survival rates. Patient Bill Krone informed ABC15 that seeking professional help for unusual symptoms was key to his successful two-year survival from lymphoma. On November 2, Ironwood will hold a free screening event and informational breakfast at their Glendale location to further support the community.
The Prevent Cancer Foundation is continuing its 'Early Detection = Better Outcomes' campaign, emphasizing the importance of timely screenings to enhance cancer outcomes, especially for populations that may encounter barriers to healthcare access. Kyra Meister, Senior Communications Manager for the Foundation, stated in a release to Real World Health Care that a primary challenge is the lack of awareness about the need for screenings. The campaign also addresses logistical challenges, such as transportation, which can be significant barriers for underserved communities.
The Foundation's efforts extend beyond screening promotions; it actively invests in research, education, and advocacy for cancer prevention. It has allocated nearly $3 million in community grants to date. This year, a significant milestone was reached with April designated as National Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month, following a presidential proclamation influenced by the Foundation's collaborative initiatives. This advocacy highlights the Prevent Cancer Foundation's comprehensive approach to cancer prevention, emphasizing evidence-based methods and support for innovative screening technologies.
