In Kokomo, the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) offers residents and visitors a new way to enjoy the city's downtown scene. Officially beginning its operation on Friday, patrons can now purchase alcoholic beverages from select businesses and sip them within the boundaries of the program's coverage. DORA is set to function year-round from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., injecting a fresh social component into the city's center.
Kokomo follows in the footsteps of other Central Indiana cities with this initiative. Mayor Tyler Moore highlighted the anticipated benefits, stating in a news release that "The launch of the DORA is an exciting step for Kokomo and our downtown businesses," and expects the plan to "create a more dynamic downtown experience," as mentioned by FOX59. "This initiative will create a more dynamic downtown experience, attracting residents and visitors to support our local businesses and enjoy our events. By allowing people to explore our community while enjoying a beverage responsibly, we’re fostering a vibrant, social atmosphere that will boost the local economy and enhance the spirit of our city," according to a statement obtained by WTHR.
The businesses that have hopped on board to participate in the DORA program span from Irish pubs to pizzerias, and include Cook McDoogal's Irish Pub, Cooper's Pub, The Coterie, Foxes Trail, The Hobson, Marble the Steakhouse, Oscar's Pizza, and Sun King Brewery. These establishments represent a diverse offering that should appeal to various palates and preference of the DORA participants.
Area will encourage people to "explore our community while enjoying a beverage responsibly". These aspects were emphasized in coverage by both WRTV and other local outlets.
