A late-night traffic incident on Michigan Avenue resulted in one driver's hospitalization and a building's structural integrity being checked, authorities said, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago. The accident occurred around 1:19 a.m. Thursday when a black sedan reportedly ran a red light and collided with a northbound silver sedan.
The impact sent the silver car careening into a nearby light pole, and then into a pillar of a building in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue. The driver of the silver sedan was transported to Northwestern Hospital with minor injuries. Traffic citations have been issued following the crash, the driver's identity, however has not been disclosed.
Following the incident, the Chicago Fire Department conducted an examination to ensure the affected building's structural safety. The results confirmed there was no damage that would impact the building's integrity. This assessment likely provided some relief to nearby residents and business owners who could have been adversely affected by potential structural compromises.
The Chicago Tribune reported that the driver of the struck silver sedan was in good condition following the incident. Police are still investigating, details surrounding the black sedan's driver, or the exact cause of the offense remain unclear at this time.
