An incident at a Lincoln City motel on Saturday led to police fatally shooting a man during a reported domestic disturbance. According to OregonLive, the confrontation occurred after Lincoln City police responded to a report involving a male and female at the Motel 6 at approximately 12:22 p.m. The officers on the scene discovered that the man had outstanding arrest warrants and was, also associated with a stolen vehicle found on the premises.
Officers encountered the individual in a motel room where he was "noncompliant," and reportedly had two guns in his waistband, as stated by KPTV. The report further indicates that the altercation escalated when the man reached for one of the firearms, prompting the officers to discharge their weapons.
The situation was met with immediate medical response, where "police gave the man first aid at the scene and he was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead," according to an OSP statement obtained by KOIN. The identity of the deceased man has not been publicly disclosed as the investigation continues.
Oregon State Police is currently leading the investigation with the involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies including the Newport Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln City Police Department, the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office, and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office. The officials are piecing together the circumstances that led to the shooting, while the woman, involved in the initial domestic disturbance report, has not been identified in relation to the incident.
