A fatal car crash on Interstate 40 claimed the life of a man early this morning. WREG reports that the man was hit by his own car after another vehicle rammed into it near Appling Road, the incident occurring just before 1:30 a.m. According to the Memphis Police, the tragedy unfolded as the man stepped out of his vehicle to inspect damages from an earlier crash, during which point another driver collided with the parked car, forcing it toward its owner.
The sequence of collisions ultimately proved fatal for the driver who got out of his car, despite the absence of identifying details released by the police, the event continues to be the subject of an active investigation as noted by both Action News 5 and FOX13 Memphis, both outlets also confirming the shutdown of the westbound lanes of the interstate for several hours following the incident with the latter reporting the time of the crash to be just after 12:40 a.m.
