A man has been taken into custody, identified as 20-year-old Rico Landford, in connection with a shooting incident on a Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) bus last month, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). WREG reports the incident occurred on September 21 following an altercation between Landford and the victim on the bus.

Running from the scene on foot, after the bus stopped near Ramill and Frayser-Raleigh Road, Landford allegedly shot multiple times through the open door, causing the bus windows to shatter. The victim, as a result of this aggression, reported to police that he was grazed by the gunfire, while also sustaining cuts from the showering glass shards. Police utilized surveillance footage to release images of Landford to assist in his apprehension.

Landford was apprehended on Wednesday and reportedly confessed to the shooting during the subsequent investigation. He now faces serious charges including two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony. His court appearance is set for Friday morning, WREG reported.

In a separate incident in Raleigh, a man succumbed to his injuries after a shooting late Tuesday afternoon. The man was found by police officers who responded to a call just after 5:45 p.m. on the 3500 block of Ridgemont Avenue near New Allen Road and was critically injured, according to FOX13 Memphis. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he did not survive.

The investigation is still ongoing as MPD has yet to release information regarding potential suspects in the Raleigh shooting. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting continue to remain unclear as officials have not yet commented on the nature of the incident that caused the man to fight for his life before he passed away. Likewise, Local Memphis stated that the information on a suspect is currently unavailable.
