The Metropolitan Police Department is on the lookout for suspects linked to a recent shooting in the Northwest quadrant of the city. The incident, which took place this past Friday, prompted authorities to appeal to the public for assistance.
According to a press release by MPD, on October 11, at around 12:10 p.m., the confrontation that led to the shooting erupted in the Unit block of Banner Lane. During an attempted robbery, a suspect threatened the victim with a handgun. The altercation escalated when the victim resisted and, in the scuffle, was grazed by a bullet. The assailants fled empty-handed, and the victim received on-scene treatment for injuries deemed not life-threatening.
MPD's call to the community is critical in the hunt for these suspects. They urge that anyone with insight into the incident should refrain from intervening directly but rather contact law enforcement officials through the designated hotlines. Information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible could result in a financial reward for the informant.
Individuals with knowledge about the suspects or the event should call (202) 727-9099, or send a text to MPD's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. In an effort to incentivize collaboration between residents and the police, MPD has publicized that they offer a reward of up to $10,000 for tips that culminate in the resolution of violent crimes within the District of Columbia.
