Beachgoers in Miami-Dade County can expect an extra layer of safety during their sun-soaked days, thanks to a new initiative dubbed "Safety in the Sand." Launched by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces, the campaign zeroes in on reducing sand-related risk with a potent mix of public education, signage, and community collaboration, according to the Miami-Dade County website.
The Safety in the Sand campaign employs strong strategies, including educational videos on social media created in partnership with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Permanent signs have been installed at Haulover and Crandon Park beaches to promote safety. Additionally, the Parks’ Communication division is distributing informational rack cards to beachfront businesses and municipal partners, enhancing efforts to prevent beach-related injuries.
Safety in the Sand aims to expand its efforts by involving local organizations and municipalities. Future plans include creating more educational content to ensure the campaign's safety message reaches a wider audience.
