In a striking sequence of events, a Miami-Dade prisoner made a daring escape from Jackson Memorial Hospital's emergency room while in police custody. Yesterday, Theodrick Rama Collins, 36, used his reported chest pain as an opportunity to flee into a waiting silver Maserati, as reported by Local 10 News.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, the escape scene was preceded by a report from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent at the Seaport, alerting authorities that Collins had several warrants for his arrest. Although police responded and Collins was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, he executed his escape while handcuffed, fleeing to a waiting newer model silver Maserati with Alabama tag GBT862, which left the scene, Rodriguez said, as per Local 10 News.
A multi-agency search for Collins was launched after his escape. The high-speed silver Maserati was later detected in Jupiter by a license plate reader, as stated by Rodriguez. The police have released a copy of Collins’s Alabama driver’s license to solicit public assistance in their manhunt, offering information on his Montgomery residence.
An official statement urged anyone with information to come forward, attempting to reassure the public amid this confounding incident. "Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call 911 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous," as noted by Local 10 News. Meanwhile, a separate report by NBC Miami confirmed the ongoing search and promised to share a picture of Collins upon availability.
