Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami International Airport officials have inaugurated the revamped Central Terminal check-in area, marking a significant upgrade for travelers. The $38 million project between Concourses F and G features advanced self-service bag drop technology and has launched the first of three modern ticket counter pods. This change sets the stage for a complete overhaul of the airport, according to Miami-Dade County website.
The renovation features new terrazzo floors and updated ceilings, aiming to improve the check-in process for Air Europa, Spirit Airlines, and Viva Aerobus passengers. The first phase is funded by a $15 million Airport Infrastructure Grant from the FAA, helping cover costs without burdening airline partners. Mayor Levine Cava emphasized the airport's commitment to creating a seamless and stress-free journey for travelers. MIA plans to invest over $9 billion in its terminals over the next decade, which includes upgrading restrooms and boarding gates.
Ralph Cutié, MIA Director and CEO, stated that the check-in area renovation is just the beginning of many improvements travelers will see in the coming months, including upgraded restrooms and new conveyance machines. He highlighted that these enhancements are part of MIA's Future-Ready initiative, aimed at transforming the customer experience while keeping an eye on future developments. Travelers can also expect a new 2,240-space parking garage, a four-star hotel, and terminal expansions designed to embrace the future of air travel.
MIA's Future-Ready Capital Improvement Program goes beyond aesthetics. It includes 206 renovated restrooms, 126 updated boarding bridges, and over 600 escalators and walkways. The plan also features a new parking facility and a hotel, all designed to enhance functionality and style, ushering in a new era of air travel with a South Florida touch.
