A woman was charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident that left another woman shot and abandoned on a causeway. Latifah Mercedes Green, 33, has been arrested following a nearly month-long investigation into an abduction and shooting that unfolded on the Julia Tuttle Causeway, as reported by NBC Miami.
According to law enforcement, early on September 10, Green, alongside unnamed co-defendants, arrived at a Miami home and subsequently a witness opened the door. The group inquired about a stolen firearm, and the confrontation escalated when their victim denied knowledge about the missing weapon and drugs. "The victim was dragged out of the home by her hair" and forced into a vehicle, according to the arrest report, which was described in detail by NBC Miami. Other suspects, including the shooter, have since been arrested, a judge revealed during Green's court appearance.
The Miami Herald specifies that the victim directed her alleged captors to her father's residence, claiming the gun was there. Her father's denial caused the suspects to leave and eventually stop on the causeway, where the victim was shot three times and left for dead. Surviving against the odds, she managed to seek help despite her grave injuries. Both NBC Miami and the Miami Herald note that authorities used surveillance to place the suspect vehicle at the crime scene.
Green faces severe charges, including attempted felony murder and kidnapping with a weapon, and police gathered blood evidence from the scene and obtained a statement from the victim and witnesses, who identified Green out of a photo lineup, as the Miami Herald reports. As the investigation continues, several suspects tied to the crime remain at large.
