A City of Miami police officer received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital after a collision involving their cruiser and a Nissan sedan on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around the intersection of Northwest 54th Street and 17th Avenue, as reported by WSVN. Aerial footage from 7Skyforce showed the aftermath of the crash, where the vehicles ended up on the sidewalk; the front bumper of the squad car damaged by the impact with the civilian vehicle.
According to Miami police, the officer was driving northbound when the crash took place, leading to a minor injury—a small laceration, as detailed in a statement from a Local 10 report; the officer was subsequently transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for precautions. Traffic was disrupted along the southbound lanes of 17th Avenue following the crash, however, vehicles traveling on the northbound lanes from 52nd and 53rd streets found the path clear, suggesting that the incident predominantly affected the southbound traffic.
The civilian driver involved in the collision with the police cruiser did not report any injuries, as both news outlets have confirmed. This detail underlines the often unpredictable nature of road incidents, where sometimes, despite the severity of a crash, individuals walk away unscathed.
Inquiries into the exact cause of the incident are still in progress, as investigators seek to piece together the precise chain of events leading up to the moment of collision; the investigation started soon after the incident and it officially remains under investigation, which is standard protocol in such traffic-related occurrences.
