Miami has claimed the crown as the "Best Foodie City" in the United States, with WalletHub ranking it at the top spot in a recent study that compared over 180 cities. The study looked at several key indicators of foodie-friendliness, including the cost of groceries, the number of high-quality restaurants per capita, and the affordability of dining out. According to the findings published by NBC Miami, Miami not only leads in overall score but also excels in diversity, accessibility, and quality of food-related experiences.
With an abundance of restaurants — some boasting multiple Michelin stars, like L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon — Miami has secured its food reputation by being an affordable dining destination, as established by WalletHub's rankings. Interestingly enough, despite their sky-high living costs and the average cocktail in Miami costing $14, New York City and Los Angeles trail behind in the list, with WalletHub shrugging them off to 16th and 13th places, respectively, as the Miami New Times reports.
The pandemic seems to have sparked a culinary revolution in Florida, creating an environment conducive to gastronomic innovation that has attracted food enthusiasts. Researchers noted that Miami is regarded as one of the best cities for foodies, emphasizing the high number of highly-rated affordable restaurants. WalletHub analysts also pointed out that fine dining isn't Miami's only strength; the city has a notable variety of gourmet shops, farmers’ markets, and kitchen supply stores.
Surprises in the WalletHub study extended beyond Miami's rise; Orlando took home bronze in the rankings, coming in third, while Tampa slid comfortably into fifth. These rankings drew attention as they surpassed traditional culinary centers like Las Vegas and Denver, which placed seventh and ninth, respectively. WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo noted that the top cities cater not only to those who enjoy dining out but also to foodies who like to test their skills by exploring new flavors in their own kitchens.
The demand for diverse culinary experiences in Miami continues to grow, with the city welcoming over ten new restaurants each month. According to the Miami New Times, this steady influx of dining options strengthens the city's emerging status as a haven for food lovers.
