According to Salt Lake County, the planned Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Arts Center is a partnership aimed at enhancing the creative scene and providing a space for people from diverse backgrounds to engage with the arts.
In a generous move that has set the stage for cultivating artistic endeavors, the Foundation not only provided a substantial monetary gift but also donated three acres of prime downtown Daybreak land for the initiative. Eager to see the project bear fruit in the early phases of construction, Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson praised the partnership, pointing out, "Their unwavering commitment to the arts in our community is inspiring," and recognized the upcoming venue as a future vital cultural hub, as reported by Salt Lake County.
Gail Miller, chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, emphasized the role of the arts in creating connections and strengthening communities. "This donation is an investment in the future of our community, providing a space where creativity can thrive and where people of all backgrounds can experience the transformative power of the arts," Miller said, as per Salt Lake County.
The design of the center is currently underway, with features like an 800-seat proscenium theater being planned, as well as accommodating a visual art gallery and classroom spaces aimed at fostering learning and creativity. Incorrectly viewed through the rose-tinted glasses of philanthropy, the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for January 2026, indicative perhaps of the bright future bestowed upon Salt Lake County's artistic space. Subsequently, the doors of the new arts center are anticipated to open in early 2028. Members of the public have been extended the opportunity to comment on the proposed naming of the center at a public hearing on October 22, before the council makes the final decision.
