A serious traffic accident on Midway Drive left a 33-year-old female motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries, the authorities report. The incident occurred last night at around 8:31 PM near the Midway neighborhood's 3100 block of Midway Drive.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the woman was traveling eastbound when her Honda Repsol CBR 600 RR motorcycle hit the raised concrete center island and threw her off the bike. As a result, both she and the motorcycle skidded into the opposing traffic lanes. The rider then collided with a silver Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 20-year-old male. Following that initial impact, the motorcycle continued its uncontrolled journey, striking a grey Toyota RAV4 managed by a 32-year-old male.

Authorities affirm that the drivers of the Dodge Grand Caravan and the Toyota RAV4 did not sustain injuries in the accident. Conversely, the motorcycle rider suffered a series of grave injuries, including a collapsed lung, fractured collarbone, multiple rib fractures, and lacerated liver and spleen. DUI has been ruled out as a contributing factor, as the preliminary investigation indicates.

The Traffic Division of the SDPD responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation, and the Traffic Investigation Unit (TIU) was notified. Anyone with information about the above incident is encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
