
A traffic collision in Hillcrest led to severe injuries for a motorcyclist yesterday afternoon. The San Diego Police Department reported that the crash occurred at 3rd Avenue and Washington Street intersection. The incident took place when a 48-year-old man in a GMC Sierra truck and a 26-year-old man on an Aprilia RSV4 motorcycle collided, causing a skull fracture and brain bleed for the motorcyclist.
Details from the Watch Commander's Log indicate that the truck was headed west on Washington Street while the motorcycle was traveling east. The truck, moving on a green light, attempted a left turn onto 3rd Avenue. At the same time, the bike was also proceeding through a green light but unsafely passed vehicles on the right shoulder and entered the intersection. This resulted in a broadside collision.
DUI has been ruled out as a contributing factor to the incident. The authorities seek additional information and encourage anyone with knowledge pertinent to the collision to come forward.
