The Metropolitan Police Department has apprehended a suspect linked to a series of burglaries in Southeast. Following a thorough investigation by the detectives, 50-year-old Darrell Griffin, of no fixed address, now faces charges for multiple counts of Burglary Two, as reported on the Metropolitan Police Department's official website.
Griffin's alleged string of burglaries spanned the month of September and continued into October. With the suspect entering and lifting property from numerous Southeast locations, the areas hit include the 800 block of Barnaby Street twice, Southern Avenue, Valley Terrace, and Varney Street, before successfully getting away.
The times and locations of the offenses, detailed on the police department's release, mark a pattern of both daytime and nighttime incidents. From the early morning of September 4 to the early hours of October 12, the suspect managed to evade capture until the MPD's recent breakthrough.
The case against Griffin rests on the evidence gathered during the investigation. Entered into the locations of concern at 1200 block of Southern Ave Southeast, at the egregious hour of approximately 1:00 a.m. on September 12, Griffin is said to have left no fixed address behind before he fled, implicating him as the alleged burglar in this sequence of events.
Griffin, upon his arrest, was duly charged with five counts of second-degree burglary as documented by the Metropolitan Police's formal communication. The date of his arraignment or details on his legal representation were not disclosed at the time of the report.
