The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is on the lookout for suspects and a vehicle involved in a string of business burglaries that hit the Southwest area last week. According to a release from the MPD, two incidents occurred on Thursday, between the hours of 4:24 a.m. and 4:36 a.m., targeting businesses in distinct locations.
The first attempted burglary took place in the Unit block of District Square, where perpetrators forced entry into a business. Although they managed to break in, they fled the scene without stealing any items. Minutes later, another break-in was reported in the 800 block of Maine Avenue, this time the culprits made off with both property and cash before making their escape. The crimes, spaced just blocks and minutes apart, suggest a coordinated effort by the individuals involved.
Law enforcement officials have turned to the community for help in apprehending those responsible for these crimes. The MPD release implores anyone with information on the identity of the suspects or the whereabouts of the associated vehicle to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or to send a tip via text to the department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. Authorities emphasize that witnesses should not approach the suspects but rather leave such interactions to the police.
As an incentive for the public's cooperation, the MPD has announced a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons tied to these incidents. This offer stands as part of the department's ongoing commitment to the safety and security of local businesses and their role in sustaining community well-being.
