Following a multi-state manhunt, U.S. Marshals, in conjunction with Connecticut State Police, have apprehended Massachusetts fugitive Steven Labrecque in a wooded area in Woodstock, Conn. Labrecque, charged with a litany of offenses, including child pornography and assault, had reportedly managed to evade capture for several months before law enforcement zeroed in on his remote campsite hideout.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Labrecque, 40, faces charges from the Franklin and New Bedford Police Departments in Massachusetts. The charges include photographing intimate parts of a child, intimidation of a witness, reckless endangerment of a child, threatening, obscene matter to a minor, and an assault and battery. Local police departments were stymied in their attempts to locate the fugitive, resulting in an assistance request to the U.S. Marshals.
The arrest was made possible through the efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies spanning two states. "The high-risk apprehension of Mr. Steven Labrecque on charges related to child pornography is the culmination of investigative efforts," acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Connecticut, Lawrence Bobnick, explained, as reported by the U.S. Marshals Service. He highlighted the arrest as testimony to the persistence of the USMS Violent Fugitive Task Force and the crucial role of interdepartmental cooperation in achieving their shared objective of community safety.
Upon arrest, Labrecque was taken to be processed by the Connecticut State Police as a fugitive from justice. There he awaits extradition back to Massachusetts to respond to the charges against him. The collective efforts leading to his capture involved the expertise of various dedicated teams, including the CSP Swat Team, CSP Troop D, and law enforcement from the Douglas and Franklin Police Departments, as well as the U.S. Marshals Service in the District of Massachusetts.
