A series of fires across Indianapolis has left six homes destroyed, a family of five displaced, and a firefighter recovering from injuries sustained during the emergency response. Authorities began reporting on the incidents in the early hours of Monday morning, with the initial calls drawing officers to the 400 block of N Hamilton Ave, where three vacant houses were engulfed in flames, as confirmed by Fox59.
Later, around 3:48 a.m., the Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to the 2000 block of N College Ave following another fire report. One of the homes involved partially collapsed, two were found vacant, and the status of a third remains unclaimed with uncertainties about its occupancy. During these events, a firefighter incurred “slight” injuries, according to Fox59.
Separate from the North Hamilton Avenue and North College Avenue incidents, a family in the southeastern part of the city endured a harrowing escape from a house fire. The blaze, which started in their garage and reached the attic, caused significant damage to their home and vehicles. "My dog woke me up," a neighbor, Gary Staver, recounted the chaotic scene. "I thought he needed to come outside, so I was bringing him outside and started hearing something, I could smell smoke and I started hearing somebody yelling for help. And just about that time is when the emergency vehicles started responding,” Staver told WRTV. The incident on Solego Drive was swiftly tackled by IFD crews, achieving fire control within 30 minutes, as reported by WISH-TV.
The causes of the fires are still being investigated. So far, no injuries have been reported except for one firefighter who was "slightly" injured.
