
A Nashville police officer fatally shot a man after a sequence of events initiated by a carjacking in downtown Nashville. The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that 26-year-old Adam Rodriguez and a woman believed to be his girlfriend used a firearm to take an Uber driver’s Honda Odyssey after rear-ending the vehicle on Friday evening. A spike strip was later deployed by officers in North Nashville to halt their escape, leading to a foot chase ending with the officer-involved shooting, as reported by WSMV.
After a carjacking was reported at 8th Avenue and Broadway around 9 p.m., police pursued the suspect to 10th Avenue North. MNPD Officer Pierce Moore chased Rodriguez on foot, repeatedly ordering him to drop his weapon. Body camera footage showed Rodriguez not complying, leading the officer to fire. Rodriguez received medical attention but was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital., as stated in a WKRN report.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has launched a probe into the incident, conducting interviews and collecting evidence to piece together the circumstances that led to Rodriguez's death. "The TBI and the police department conduct thorough use of force investigations. This investigation is at the early stages and will take time to complete,” Don Aaron, with the Metro Nashville Police Department, stated, as per WSMV. Officer Moore has been placed on administrative assignment while the investigation ensues.
