The Oakland Zoo is switching on the lights once again for what promises to be an incandescent safari through Glowfari, its annual lantern spectacle now in its fifth year. Oakland Zoo's social media channels herald the event's return, promising a "wildly illuminating, family-friendly event" featuring all-new, giant-sized animal lanterns representing the zoo's dedication to wildlife conservation.
Kicking off on November 8 and running on select dates through January 26, 2025, the zoo lays out a trek from the storied banks of Africa's Nile to the barnyard stomping grounds of cows and chickens, climaxing with the return of the prehistoric dinosaurs. Each section is cast in lights and shadows. According to the Oakland Zoo's official Glowfari webpage, the event spans various themed areas bathed in luminescence, ensuring there’s something to awe every age.
To snag the best deal on this nighttime adventure, the zoo recommends early booking through their plan-ahead pricing ticketing system, which varies the admission cost depending on how close to the event date you purchase. Alongside a 10% discount for members, children under two can enjoy the lights for free, and parking is complimentary. Be aware that ticket prices may escalate the closer you book to the date of your visit. Some strategizing can save a few bucks for an extra bag of kettle corn or a souvenir lantern.
It's all outdoors, so dressing for the nippy winter weather is a must. Should any other unforeseen events occur, the zoo will refund tickets for any missed Glowfari evenings. As mentioned on the Oakland Zoo's Facebook page, scams should be avoided, and stick to authorized ticket purchase routes to ensure you get the real deal and not some faux glow.
