An 81-year-old man from Ohio, identified as Noah L. Yoder of Hicksville, was killed in a vehicle collision involving a semi-truck on Thursday afternoon on I-69 near Grant County. The crash took place around the 270-mile marker where Yoder's 2021 Ford Explorer was struck from behind by a 2020 Volvo semi, driven by Gurmanjit Singh, 25, of Greenwood, Indiana, Country Herald reported.
Despite attempts at life-saving measures, Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office, and the semi-truck driver did not sustain any injuries, FOX59 added, the ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Indiana State Police who currently have not established the reason behind the semi's collision with Yoder's SUV, and authorities do not presently believe alcohol or narcotics were a factor in the incident.
The incident has prompted inquiries into vehicle safety and driver awareness, especially on rural highways where large commercial vehicles and personal cars operate in close proximity. Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. According to a WISH-TV news release, police have not reported any arrests or citations related to the fatal incident.
Van Buren authorities, alongside state troopers, responded to the fatal crash in the northeastern part of Grant County. Details surrounding the crash continue to be under investigation.
