
In a tragic accident in the early hours of Wednesday in Springville, a 61-year-old Orem man lost his life when a vehicle, driven by a drowsy 18-year-old woman, veered into his path as he rode his bicycle to work. According to KSLTV, the victim, identified as Kevin Joseph Done, was pronounced dead after being transported to Utah Valley Hospital following the incident around 815 West Raymond Way at approximately 1:30 a.m., Oct. 9.
Replicating the words of the Springville Police Department, the driver of the car, only identified as an 18-year-old female from Springville, admitted to the authorities that she had fallen asleep at the wheel right before striking Done. The police were prompt in their response, having found Done unconscious on the side of the road, as obtained by Fox 13.
Numerous local resources were employed, including the Utah County crash reconstruction and a detective from the Springville Police Department, to assist with the thorough investigation of the crash. As the details of the tragic event are being meticulously pieced together, the Utah County Prosecutor’s Office is currently reviewing potential charges, as reported by ABC4.
The collision raises awareness about the dangers of drowsy driving, a perilous slumber that turned a route to work into a scene of loss. The driver, responsible for the accident, did not flee the scene, instead, she called 911 immediately and was checked for impairment by the police, who stated that she did not appear impaired.
