In anticipation of the heavy rains forecast with the incoming storms, Pembroke Pines is offering assistance to residents by distributing free sandbags. The city has initiated a distribution effort to provide free sandbags to residents in need today, from early morning until 4 p.m. Those interested should head to Pembroke Pines Health Park located at 8300 West Cypress Drive, but must join the car line by 3:30 p.m.
According to an announcement on the city's official website, individuals picking up sandbags should bring their own manpower—the city provides the materials, while filling the bags is a DIY task. Each household can take up to five bags, and it's important to have proof of residency in Pembroke Pines, as visits without this documentation will not be able to collect sandbags.
The announcement indicates that assistance will be provided to the elderly and persons with disabilities. For residents who may be unable to fill their own sandbags, whether due to age or disability, can receive help. Just ensure you can demonstrate your need for assistance when you're at the distribution site.
If you're a Pembroke Pines resident looking to protect your home from the impending downpour, the city has provided a solution, free sandbags. Bring a shovel, or be ready to use one of the city-supplied shovels.
