A Pequot Lakes man, identified as Jeffrey Benjamin Adkins, 43, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for the production of child pornography. The sentence, which also includes a subsequent 10-year term of supervised release, follows Adkins' guilty plea to one count in the case. The announcement was made following his appearance last Friday in U.S. District Court before Judge Katherine M. Menendez.
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota released a statement detailing that, over several years, Adkins had repeatedly sexually abused a minor. It was during these acts of abuse that he produced a video, approximately five minutes in length, showing the sexual torture of the minor. On May 28, 2024, Adkins pleaded guilty, choosing to openly accept the charges according to court documents.
The case came to a close due, in large part, to the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). They worked to uncover the crimes and compile evidence sufficient to move forward with prosecution.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily A. Polachek led the prosecution, fighting to ensure that Adkins would be held accountable for his abhorrent crimes. Her efforts underscore a commitment to aggressively pursue those who seek to perpetually harm the most vulnerable among us. "This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI," stated Polachek, emphasizing the collaborative process to prosecute individuals like Adkins.
