The city of Phoenix is upping its community game with a free, family-oriented festival dubbed the Plaza19 Family Festival Truck-and-Treat, a public soiree aimed at celebrating the newly revitalized Plaza19.
Set to unfold on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the 19th Ave & Dunlap Park-and-Ride. The event, which stems from a partnership between Valley Metro and the City of Phoenix, will feature activities galore, including vehicle displays, family entertainment, community booths, and, for those feeling lucky, giveaways and raffles.
Notable figures such as Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Councilmember Ann O'Brien, and representatives from both Valley Metro and the community will be gracing the event with remarks scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., according to the official announcement.
Plaza19 is not just another pretty spot in the city – it's a fusion of transit convenience and communal space. It's been part of the cityscape since the Northwest Extension Phase I light rail project was introduced in 2016, but now it's had a makeover. It's designed to be the community's living room of sorts, with a space that seamlessly merges being a paid fare zone with offering a platform for community engagement.
Phoenix Public Transit Department, which is known for providing a spectrum of transit options from local and commuter buses to special needs transportation, plays a pivotal role in the city's transit system. This department operates within the framework of Transportation 2050 (T2050), a locally funded initiative focused on enhancing bus services and upgrading transit-related technology under the oversight of the Citizens Transportation Commission.
