The National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon, has forecasted a distinct pattern of changing weather for the city in the coming days, starting with rain and showers today before giving way to fog and then a clearer, warmer weekend. According to the latest update from the National Weather Service, Portlanders should expect rain before 2 p.m. today, with showers rolling in mainly between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., coupled with some patchy fog in the late morning hours. Temperatures are expected to peak at a high near 61 degrees, with a south wind blowing at 3 to 6 mph and a certain chance of precipitation standing at 100%.
As the evening approaches, the likelihood of showers drops to 30%, primarily before 7 p.m. Yet, the city is poised for widespread dense fog set to develop mainly after 2 a.m., which will mark a cooler nighttime temperature of around 46 degrees, beneath increasing clouds with light and variable winds. Visibility disruptions due to dense fog are anticipated to be more significant before 9 a.m. Saturday morning, thus travelers should plan accordingly for possible delays.
Looking ahead to Saturday's weather, the National Weather Service predicts widespread dense fog lingering in the morning hours followed by clouds that are expected to clear as the day progresses. Temperatures will rise to a comfortable high near 70 degrees, with calm winds shifting north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Saturday night will once again bring patchy fog after 2 a.m., though skies will remain mostly clear with lows dipping to around 47 degrees.
Portland's weather will continue to improve heading into Sunday, with patchy fog expected to clear by 10 a.m., giving way to sunny skies and a high near 72. The calm conditions will persist through Sunday night into Monday, with clear skies at night and a generous high of 75 expected to start the week. The trend continues with mostly sunny days up until Tuesday night, when the chance of showers re-emerges, though the city will still benefit from a high near 73 during the day. The slight chance of showers extends into Wednesday and Thursday, though both days will see partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s.
