A tragic incident in the Central 9th neighborhood of Salt Lake City has culminated in the death of a 45-year-old bicyclist, Breanna Anderson. As reported by the Salt Lake City Police Department, Anderson succumbed to injuries sustained from a crash involving her bicycle and a stationary vehicle.
Details are continuing to emerge from the investigation that began in the early hours of September 22, when a police officer discovered Anderson with serious injuries alongside a car stopped on the road, its hazard lights active. Despite rapid transport to the hospital by the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance, the efforts to save her life were ultimately in vain.
The driver involved in the accident is said to be cooperating with authorities. The SLCPD has indicated that based on their initial findings, Anderson may have been cycling westbound in the eastbound lanes when she collided head-on with the car. The severity of the crash prompted involvement from the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team, as well as technicians from the SLCPD Crime Lab. The CAR Team is comprised of highly trained law enforcement from various Salt Lake Valley agencies. Salt Lake City has now witnessed 11 traffic-related fatalities in the year 2024, marking a somber statistic for the community.
