For the first time in its history, Salt Lake County is gearing up to send out two-page ballots for the upcoming General Election in November. The move comes as officials attempt to deal with a ballot that is as crowded as the county's booming population. With over half a million registered to vote in the county, the longer ballots are necessary to cover the multitude of positions and issues up for grabs this year. According to Salt Lake County, voters will have their say on 179 candidates spanning 88 contests, along with significant bond measures and constitutional amendments.
Officials have designed the two-sided pages to be as straightforward as possible for voters. "Salt Lake County voters have more opportunities than ever to make their voices heard in this election," Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman said, as per Salt Lake County. Encouragement is also being given to residents to fully ponder both pages of the ballot, marked with blue and orange boxes, respectively, to ensure all votes are properly cast and counted. The first of the ballots are expected to be mailed out the week of October 15, well in advance of the November 5 Election Day.
The voting process in Salt Lake County allows for several options for submitting ballots. This flexibility in voting methods aims at ensuring maximum participation. Voters can make use of secure drop boxes, take advantage of early voting locations, or send ballots by mail. For those who prefer the traditional route, in-person voting centers will be available on Election Day.
