A 66-year-old woman has reportedly fallen overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, and a search is currently underway. According to WPTV News, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force are involved in the search for the passenger, last seen on the Allure of the Seas cruise liner. The unfortunate incident took place roughly 17 miles north of Nassau in the Bahamas' vicinity.
Details regarding the circumstances that led to the woman's fall and whether she was part of the nearly 200 passengers aboard for a special Taylor Swift-themed sailing remain undisclosed. The Allure of the Seas ship had left PortMiami on Monday and had been on a four-night journey with scheduled stops in Nassau and Coco Cay, as they told FOX 29. Multiple aircraft have been deployed by the Coast Guard to assist in the search operation. The itinerary indicates that the ship was slated to return back to Miami by Friday, following a week filled with fanfare and music, coming off the high of Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" concerts in Miami Gardens the previous weekend.
Issuing a statement to WPTV News, Royal Caribbean affirmed, "Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort and is working with local authorities. We are also providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest’s family, we have no additional details to share." The identity of the woman remains undisclosed.
