Another individual has been apprehended in connection with an armed robbery and subsequent officer-involved shooting incident at a Frayser gas station back in August. The suspect, identified as Cobe McCarter, 20, faces charges which include aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and evading arrest in a scenario that initially commenced with a daylight heist and escalated into an exchange of gunfire, and a high-speed police pursuit, as reported by WREG.
On the day of the incident, which occurred about two months earlier, a victim at the EZ Express on Frayser Boulevard was reportedly accosted by four males who proceeded to rob him at gunpoint, according to an affidavit, and when a security guard intervened one of the suspects brandished a weapon at them, which led to several shots being fired, then police that were across the street noticed and tried to effectuate a stop, but the suspects began to flee in a white sedan, and once stopped two suspects, including McCarter, attempted to escape on foot, according to FOX13 Memphis.
The attempted traffic stop escalated when the suspects refused to halt, and McCarter is reported to have pointed a gun at an officer, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon, though no evidence suggests McCarter was hit during the incident, as detailed by Action News 5. A firearm, along with a broken magazine and scattered ammunition, was recovered from a concrete drainage ditch near the scene.
Subsequent lineups allowed both the victim and the officer to positively identify McCarter, leading to a warrant and his recent arrest. McCarter is scheduled to appear before a judge today, which may provide more details about the Frayser gas station incident and the roles of each suspect.
