In a tragic incident early this morning, a homeowner in southeast Shelby County confronted suspected car burglars and was fatally shot. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office confirmed that deputies arrived at the scene on the 7000 block of Cutter Mill Road shortly before 3 a.m. following reports of a shooting, as reported by Action News 5.
The homeowner, upon noticing individuals trying to break into a vehicle in his driveway, reportedly opened his front door and yelled at the suspects, after which he was shot multiple times, both FOX13 Memphis and Action News 5 provided similar accounts of the sequence of events that led to the tragic outcome.
He was quickly transported to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition yet despite urgent medical care, the homeowner succumbed to his injuries and died, as disclosed in a report by WREG. The Sheriff's Office is actively conducting a homicide investigation, however, as of the latest updates, no suspect information has been released but the search for those responsible continues diligently in the wake of this unfortunate event.
