Spirit Airlines is set to inject a dose of convenience into travel plans for the Mardi Gras celebrations, announcing non-stop flights between Memphis and New Orleans. According to Action News 5, the seasonal service will commence on February 20 and continue through March 9, 2025.

The flights will utilize an Airbus 320 aircraft with 182 seats, departing Memphis International Airport at 8:00 a.m. and touching down in New Orleans at 9:00 a.m. Conversely, the evening flight will leave Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport at 6:00 p.m., ensuring passengers arrive back in Memphis at exactly 7:00 p.m. The schedule for these flights has been released but may change, as noted by MEM.

In statements shared by FOX13 Memphis, airport authorities and airline representatives expressed enthusiasm for the new route. "We're excited to see Spirit offer nonstop service to the great city of New Orleans for the Mardi Gras season," remarked Michael Keeney, Chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.

"We know Memphis travelers want convenient and affordable flights to popular leisure destinations, and our new seasonal service makes it easier to visit the Big Easy for Mardi Gras this spring," John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit, told Local Memphis. Tickets for these flights are already available for purchase on the airline's website with a focus on offering a more economical alternative to driving for the festive season.

This launch is a strategic move by Spirit Airlines as it aims to capitalize on the high demand for travel during the Mardi Gras season, a time when New Orleans sees a significant influx of tourists eager to partake in its storied celebrations. With direct flights now in play, both cities could witness the mutual benefits of heightened connectivity.
