Tragedy struck the Northeast neighborhood in D.C. as the Metropolitan Police Department reported a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a young boy and injured another individual on the evening of August 1. According to the press release from the Metropolitan Police Department, authorities were called to Tuckerman Street around 7:51 p.m. Responding officers found a juvenile male victim dead at the scene, later identified as 14-year-old David Bailey.
Seeking to apprehend the individual responsible, the police named 17-year-old Andre Chillous, a Northwest D.C. resident, as the suspect. They have charged Chillous with First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated) and issued a corresponding warrant for his arrest. Found a short time later, the second victim, an adult male suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital.
Citizens possessing any information about Chillous’ whereabouts are urged by the authorities not to approach him, but instead to immediately contact the police. Tips can be submitted by calling (202) 727-9099 or through the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The department reiterates that it offers a reward of up to $25,000, looking to encourage the public's help in securing the arrest and conviction of those culpable for homicides in the District.
The incident underscores the continuing struggle against gun violence that impacts the lives of young people in our cities. The public plays a vital role in this and the Metropolitan Police Department's reliance on their assistance, hoping that the fugitives responsible for taking away the tomorrows of our youth are brought swiftly to justice.
