An Imperial Beach senior citizen became a victim of a distressing crime when she found that her jewelry—a ring and earrings valued at $260,000—had been stolen. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the theft was reported to the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation last Thursday after the 78-year-old victim noticed the absence of her precious items.
After her ordeal, the efforts to immediately track down the stolen goods led sheriff's detectives to a local pawn shop. Here, Maria De Los Angeles Cabrera was discovered allegedly attempting to pawn the items in question. Amid their investigation, detectives took Cabrera into custody yesterday. They detained the suspect and effectively recovered and returned the stolen valuables to their rightful owner.
Cabrera, with a date of birth listed as March 24, 1985, faces serious charges, including burglary, grand theft, and elder abuse. She was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility due to her alleged involvement in this incident.
