Early Tuesday morning, an explosion at Lehi Tech Apartments resulted in the displacement of 90 families from their homes. The incident occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. at the address 200 S 1350 Street in Lehi, as reported by FOX13. A couple residing in the apartment where the explosion happened sustained minor injuries from debris.
After the explosion, which authorities are investigating for its "suspicious" nature, the Lehi Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene. According to ABC4, the explosion not only injured the couple lightly but also triggered sprinklers, causing water damage throughout the complex. This damage has made it impossible for residents to return until the fire suppression system is restored and safety is ensured for reentry.
The evacuation effort was managed by the Lehi police and fire departments, with the Red Cross stepping in to assist. As stated by KSL, the families evacuated were still near the complex awaiting further assistance well into the morning. The affected building will remain off-limits to the residents until it is deemed safe.
Details regarding the origin of the explosion have yet to be divulged by the authorities. Efforts to repair the sprinkler system which was set off in the apartment, further compounding the explosion's damage are underway, as conveyed by multiple local news outlets.
