A pedestrian was fatally injured earlier today after being struck by two different vehicles in Tamarac, authorities have confirmed. The Broward Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident was first reported around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Northwest 70th Avenue and West McNab Road. The fatally affected pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel, as described in a report by Local 10 News.
In a horrific sequence of events, the victim was initially hit by one vehicle, only to then be struck by a second. According to Carey Codd, the BSO spokesman, after the first collision knocked the victim to the ground, a second vehicle compounded the tragedy by striking the pedestrian again. As per the account obtained by Local 10 News, the driver of the first vehicle remained on scene and engaged with the investigation, while the second driver left the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
Images from the scene showed the devastating aftermath, with the body covered by a yellow tarp, cornered by deputy's cars, and a blue gate erected to shield onlookers, as outlined by WSVN. Traffic homicide detectives from the BSO have since been dispatched to thoroughly investigate the cause and circumstances of the collision.
The incident has resulted in traffic disturbances in the surrounding area, with east and westbound lanes of McNab Road temporarily closed. Officials have issued advisories urging motorists to quickly seek alternate routes, to possibly avoid adding to the ongoing disruption. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is engaged in the process of investigating the series of events that led to this tragic outcome, as WSVN reported. The public is asked to come forward with any information that might aid in locating the second driver, with tips able to be submitted anonymously to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
