The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is currently investigating a deputy-involved shooting that took place this past weekend in the town of Brownsville, Haywood County. According to Action News 5, the incident occurred on Saturday night near Windrow Road when a deputy approached a crashed vehicle following a pursuit involving another deputy.

During the interaction, for reasons that are still under investigation, the officer discharged their weapon, injuring the passenger inside the vehicle. The person sustained injuries that, according to reports by FOX13 Memphis, were not life-threatening. They were quickly transported to an hospital in Memphis for treatment.

There have been no reported injuries to law enforcement personnel in the incident. The shooting happened around 10 p.m., when the Haywood County Sheriff's Office deputy encountered the two individuals in the vehicle, post the crash that concluded a chase sequence.

As the TBI continues to piece together the circumstances surrounding the use of force, WREG stated, "agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting."
