Authorities have apprehended a 16-year-old boy in connection with an assault and attempted robbery that occurred last month in Northwest, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident took place on September 11, along the 1400 block of Columbia Road where the teenager allegedly assaulted a person with the intent to rob them.
The suspect reportedly approached the victim at around 4:40 a.m., attempting to seize their bookbag and, upon resistance, brandished a firearm to intimidate the victim into surrendering their possessions. However, the victim stood firm, and the assailant fled without taking anything. The victim, who suffered minor injuries, later contacted the police to report the crime.
Diligent investigative work led detectives to identify and issue a custody order for the suspect. According to MPDC's release yesterday, the MPD's Third District Crime Suppression Team executed a search warrant at a residence on the same block where the attempted robbery took place. They arrested the teen on the scene, linking him to the September incident.
The youth, a resident of Northwest, now faces charges of Assault with Intent to Rob. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to encourage community members to come forward with any information that may help prevent such incidents and aid in their resolutions.
