Northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs came to a standstill yesterday afternoon following the discovery of a woman's body on the highway. The closure, which allowed for law enforcement to investigate the scene, stretched for several hours and caused significant traffic disruptions.
The incident began when the Coral Springs Police Department (CSPD) and Florida Highway Patrol units responded to reports of the body near University Drive, shortly before 3:40 p.m. Aerial footage acquired by WSVN showed a white tent erected on the roadside, shrouding the location where the body was found. At this time, authorities have not released any information on the deceased woman or speculated on the cause of death.
Traffic was rerouted while investigators worked at the scene. Commuters were advised to find alternative routes as all northbound lanes on the expressway at Coral Ridge Drive were closed, directing traffic off the expressway at that junction, as noted by TAPinto.
CSPD is currently handling the ongoing death investigation and has maintained a limited flow of information due to the active status of the case. Late last night, the northbound lanes were reopened to the public.
