Early this morning, a head-on collision on West Elkton Road in Butler County claimed the life of a 16-year-old driver and critically injured both a 13-year-old passenger and a 60-year-old man, as per reports from WCPO.
The incident occurred near the 6700 block of West Elkton near Somerville, Ohio, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Butler County Sheriff's Office said. A 2005 Pontiac, which the teen operated, veered into the opposing lane and collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban. The sequence of events led to devastating consequences, including the young driver's instant demise, and left the other vehicles' occupants with grave injuries that required transportation via CareFlight helicopters to nearby hospitals, FOX19 reported.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deceased was a Preble Shawnee Local Schools 11th-grade student. At the same time, Superintendent Todd Bowling informed that the 13-year-old also attended the district's schools. According to correspondence from The Enquirer, the school has since provided counselors and support staff for students needing assistance coping with the tragedy.
