Salt Lake City Police reported a significant collision involving a truck and an individual using a wheelchair near 400 South and Redwood Road early Tuesday morning. The incident, which occurred at 6:27 a.m., resulted in the pedestrian being sent to the hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. Officials emphasized, however, that these injuries were non-life-threatening, according to FOX13.
Following the crash, local law enforcement closed the thoroughfare to facilitate an immediate response. This action inevitably disrupted the normal flow of morning traffic. Nevertheless, the road was cleared and subsequently reopened at approximately 7:45 a.m., as detailed by KSLTV. Detectives from the Salt Lake City Police Department are actively trying to thoroughly understand the circumstances that led to the unfortunate event.
The mishap raised immediate questions regarding the safety of those using mobility aids within the city, as well as the responsibility of drivers to be vigilant of pedestrians in all forms. As reported by KUTV, the Salt Lake City Police Department has not yet disclosed whether there have been any citations or arrests made in connection with the incident. Furthermore, the truck involved in the collision was not present in a video that the police department later shared from the scene.
Current details about the crash remain sparse as the investigation continues. "The cause of the accident is still under investigation," the Salt Lake City Police Department stated, according to KUTV. Police have suggested they do not expect to immediately have additional updates to share with the public.
