Two Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were hospitalized earlier today after a violent encounter at a Pompano Beach gas station with a man who later bit off part of a deputy's ear. The altercation, which was reported before 9 a.m., occurred at the RaceTrac located at 599 W. Atlantic Boulevard, close to Interstate 95. As per NBC Miami, the deputies were initially responding to a disturbance call when they encountered the irate individual.
Upon their arrival, the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, quickly became aggressive and proceeded to physically assault both deputies. This attack resulted in significant injury, including the biting incident which led to one deputy being treated for a severed portion of their ear. The deputies were able to bring themselves to area hospitals, and officials confirmed that the injuries were non-life threatening, as detailed in a statement obtained by Local 10.
Authorities have taken the man into custody, though they have yet to announce what charges he could possibly be facing.
