Two women are now in critical condition after being shot during a large, chaotic gathering in South Memphis, as first reported by WREG. The incident took place near Renaissance Pocket Park on Thursday evening when Memphis Police responded to reports of a fight and gunfire at the intersection of Mississippi Boulevard and Gaither Street.
The Memphis Police Department confirmed the timing of the event at approximately 9:27 p.m., with multiple individuals engaging in a confrontation, and shooting that resulted in the two women suffering from gunshot wounds, they were then rushed to the hospital, where they remained in a critical state, according to information shared by the department on their Facebook page.
Details from Action News 5 indicate that the victims, after being injured, initially fled the scene; one was found at a fire station on South Lauderdale Street and the other at a location on South Bellevue Boulevard before both were transported for emergency medical care.
